Hopefully you know by now, that in Jaco, surf is life. The south end of Jaco beach offers a great place for beginners and the north end offers a couple breaks for those with more skill. When the swell is right you can expect most of the breaks to be for those mid-skill level surfers and up. If you are the surfer seeking bigger and more powerful waves you’ll find this consistently in Playa Hermosa. Hermosa Beach is one of the most popular and famous surf destinations in Costa Rica and the Pacific Coast. Playa Hermosa and The Backyard restaurant host a surf competition every Friday and Saturday afternoon at 4pm. They do a great job announcing the event in english and spanish, providing great music, and a perfect chill environment to relax and enjoy some of the best talent in the country as they surf into the sunset. It’s a must do if you’re staying in Jaco, Playa Hermosa, or just passing through.
